Social Service Work (Family Support)

Our multi-disciplinary team provides wrap-around support to people & their loved ones.

We will work with you to create a plan for you & your whānau to reach the goals you set. This may include using the specialised services of other agencies. Our wrap-around service ensures that where possible, all your needs are met.

To ensure we achieve the very best outcomes for you, our Social Work Team have connections & collaborate with government agencies, social services, counsellors & our own multi-disciplinary team in-house.

Our social service delivery methods include:

  • Strength-based therapeutic approach

  • Whānau planning & goal setting

  • Safety planning

  • Whānau reunification

  • Care & protection of children e.g support with Oranga Tamariki

  • Mental health supports

  • Network navigation: we seek appropriate service supports (i.e programmes, food banks etc)

  • Advocacy & Support

    • Police, Oranga Tamariki, Probation/Courts/Lawyers

    • Education & Health: Winz, Kāinga Ora/housing providers, budgeting support

  • Our services are available to anyone in the Manukau community who may need support, guidance, or connection to other resources. You can contact us directly or be referred by other professionals or community organisations.  

  • Your first meeting is about getting to know you and understanding what’s going on in your life. We will listen, help you identify your goals, and start building a plan together. It’s a relaxed and supportive conversation—there’s no pressure.  

  • We regularly collaborate with government agencies, schools, housing providers, Oranga Tamariki, health providers, and other social services to ensure you receive the best possible support. Our goal is to help you navigate these systems and advocate for what you need.  

  • Yes, your privacy is very important to us. All information you share is kept confidential, except in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or when we are legally required to share information.  

  • There is no charge for our social service support. Friendship House is here to make sure cost is not a barrier to getting the help you need.  

  • Absolutely. We encourage involving family, whānau, or anyone important to you in your support journey. We believe that lasting change happens when we work together.  

  • You can Make a Referral or Contact Us to talk with our friendly team. We’re here to listen, answer your questions, and help you take the next step.
