Whānau Resilience

Counselling for whānau who have experienced Family & Sexual Harm

We engage with whānau assisting them in their journey to address issues that have contributed to their current situation. Whānau resilience is whānau led, meaning whānau identify areas where they require assistance & our service works together with whānau, at a pace set by whānau.

Whānau resilience is in partnership with Te Kaha O Te Whānau & with two service providers Mahi Tahi & Manurewa Marae, serving our community in South Auckland.

Services we deliver for whānau:

  • Long-term support for whānau who have experienced trauma:

    • Forms of abuse

    • Family violence/sexual harm

    • Whānau healing & recovery from family & sexual violence

  • Therapeutic approach to support long-term changes

  • Advocacy & practical i.e. housing, Winz, legal, medical, education, addictions, health, etc

  • Parenting support for whānau i.e. supports for tamariki

  • Whānau plan & goal setting

  • Support for whānau hui & professional hui

  • Safety planning

  • Our services are available to anyone in the Manukau community who may need support, guidance, or connection to other resources. You can contact us directly or be referred by other professionals or community organisations. 

  • There is no strict time limit. Our service offers long-term support and we will walk alongside your whānau for as long as you need, working at a pace that feels right for you.  

  • Yes, you are welcome to include extended whānau or trusted support people in your sessions and planning if you feel it will help your healing journey.  

  • No, you do not need any formal documentation, diagnosis, or court involvement. You can simply reach out to us directly for support.  

  • Yes, your privacy is very important to us. All information you share is kept confidential, except in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or when we are legally required to share information. 

  • No, the Whānau Resilience service is completely free for those who need support.  

  • You can contact us directly to have a confidential chat about how we can help. You can also be referred by another support service or community organisation. Make a Referral or Contact Us to find out more.
