Coming Out of Violence Programme LGBTQA+
Aotearoa’s First Rainbow Violence Prevention Programme
Coming Out of Violence is a 15 week programme for people who identify as LGBTQIA+/MVFAPPF who need support to make changes in their lives. We use the term Rainbow to be inclusive of everyone.
Rainbow people experience high rates of family and sexual harm & our Coming Out of Violence program has been designed specifically for the Rainbow Community which recognises the additional factors of violence that Rainbow people experience.

Designed to teach skills required to express yourself & understand others safely & respectfully
Programme topics include 6 modules:
Anger Management
Communication Skills
Healthy Relationships
Alcohol & Other Drugs
Making Changes
Violence - Psychological and Emotional Violence
Violence - Sexual Violence
When are COV Programmes available?
We currently offer;
Initial interview between 8.30am and 4.30pm, then either;
1 on 1 programme or;
Weekly two & a half hour group sessions - delivery dependent on numbers

Yes, self-referrals are welcome. You don’t need to be referred by a court, agency, or other service.

You can choose the format that works best for you. Depending on availability, the programme can be delivered either in a one-on-one setting or through weekly group sessions.

The initial interview is a chance to get to know you, understand your needs, answer any questions you have, and help determine whether group or one-on-one sessions are the best fit.

Feeling unsure is completely normal. Our team will talk with you beforehand and support you through the process. The programme is designed to be inclusive, respectful, and non-judgmental.

Support people aren’t part of the group sessions, but you’re welcome to bring someone with you to your initial interview if it makes you feel more comfortable.

No, it’s also for people who recognise harmful behaviours in themselves or their relationships and want to make positive, healthy changes.
